Databases and library

Databases

The objects in the Museum’s collection are stored in the Latvian National Library building at Mūkusalas iela 3, Riga. Information about these objects is gradually being entered into several digital databases where anyone can access descriptions and photographs of these objects.

www.meandrs.lv

At www.Meandrs.lv you can find photographs and information about items in the collection as well as their physical characteristics, history and significance. Presently the database contains information on approximately 2400 objects in the Latvians Abroad Museum collection. Select LA-MRC from the menu on the left hand side for the English version. You can search by keywords or topics.

www.LatviesiPasauleFoto.lv

www.LatviesiPasauleFoto.lv contains about 1000 digitised photographs from the Latvians Abroad Museum collection. Photographs available here are from three segments in the Museum’s collection:
1) Canadian Latvian participation in song festivals outside Latvia;
2) Latvian participation in anti-Soviet demonstrations outside Latvia before independence was regained;
3) Latvians in Brazil up to World War I. The database is updated regularly.

Library

We have more than 800 books in our library (scientific monographs, encyclopedias, as well as memoirs and fiction), 20 different periodical publications and 16 DVDs.

"Latvieši pasaulē" bibliotēkas saraksts

Although the Museum does not aim to collect all publications that have been published outside Latvia (almost all are available in libraries in Latvia), our work is benefited by various reference materials, encyclopedias, small circulation periodicals, newspapers and newsletters published at summer camps, schools, and youth meetings, as well as memoirs, historical monographs and collections or articles which reflect emigration topics. Specific publications are often required to produce thematic exhibitions.

The library books are available for use. If you wish to access them, please contact us by phone: +371 26959190.

The library continually needs to be updated with the newest publications, and occasionally bibliographic rarities need to be purchased second-hand or from the internet. If you wish to donate publications from your collections, please contact the Museum staff first! You can also make arrangements regarding means of transportation to the Museum collection store for your donation by email: info@lapamuzejs.lv or by writing to the mailing address: Latvians Abroad Museum, Mazā Nometņu 65a – 1, Rīga LV 1002.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our library so far!
